Barry Wilkerson, County Atty. said that his department has a new receptionist and, with one more position to fill, will then be back to full staff. Atty. General Schmidt, as part of promoting consistency across the state, is having a series of forums for prosecutors. They will be held in Nov. in Manhattan.
Wilkerson, who was named Prosecutor of the year, thanked the BOCC for their support.
Brenda Nickel, Director of the Riley County Health Dept, submitted her resignation effective Dec. 11. She has accepted a position as risk manager director for Flint Hills Community Health Center. She will be working near her home which is 10 miles south of Emporia. She has been living during the week in an apartment in Manhattan.
Commissioner Boyd spoke for the Commission in recognizing Nickel’s leadership when the health dept. went from a joint city/county agency to a county-only agency in 2012. Nickel has agreed to give what help she can with the search for a new Director . The Commission will start looking but don’t want to be hurried but rather concentrate on getting the best candidate.
